We are committed to the health and wellbeing of land, laborer and local community, and half of our profits support rural health initiatives in the Piedmont.
2020 - 2021: Supporting the Caswell Parish Food Bank
Whippoorwill Herb Company was founded in 2020 while Covid-19 turned the world on its side. During the shutdown, the farm was still: we didn’t see a plane overhead for weeks and only occasionally did we see a vehicle pass the fields where we worked. While we watched our hemp plants grow from seed to become strong and robust, we followed news of hardships at a global scale. Closer to home, we saw the line at our local food pantry grow longer and longer with each passing week. While we intended to partner with rural health clinics during our inaugural year, our original plan just didn’t make sense when thousands of folks in our community didn’t know where they would get their next meal. Health and wellbeing can never flourish in circumstances of acute food insecurity.
In these pressing new circumstances, we made a strategic pivot and are focusing all our resources around access to healthy food. We have partnered with a local food distribution site in our community, and all the funds generated from the Hemp Half this year will be donated to this local food bank. As our rural health strategy adapts to changing circumstances on the ground, we will provide periodic updates on this page to map the progress of our first rural health partnership.
In July, we made our first installment of $5,000 to the Hemp Half for Rural Health. It was an honor to donate to Caswell Parish, an amazing and essential organization, and we thank our beloved customers at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market in Greensboro, the Eno River Farmers Market in Hillsborough, the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in Greensboro, as well as our online customers for making this possible. We look forward to the next installment of Whippoorwill Herb Company's Hemp Half for Rural Health, and thank you to the Caswell Parish for all that you do for our community! Thank you to the Caswell Messenger for helping to foster awareness of food insecurity around the Piedmont. Check out the article here, including lots of quotes and our plans for the future.
