Whippoorwill Herb Company continues a Piedmont tradition of cultivating and curing some of the finest smokable products in the world. Inspired by these traditions, our seed-to-smoke process is guided by these principles of artisanal craft:
Sun-Grown
Our plants are bathed in natural sunlight and nurtured in the organic soil of the Carolina Piedmont. Natural sunlight facilitates the production of more cannabinoids and terpenes, and seasoned connoisseurs of smokable hemp insist that flowers cultivated outdoors produce more subtle flavors than plants grown in an indoor environment. We believe that hemp flower of the finest quality is not produced through artificial, laboratory-like control of the environment, but from a mutually-symbiotic partnership with mother nature. Just think of sun-grown hemp like a homegrown tomato—can it even be compared to a hydroponic greenhouse specimen that resembles a tomato in appearance, yet tastes nothing like the old fashioned homegrown? Wherever you may stand on the indoor/outdoor debate, when you factor in the massive amounts of energy required for the lighting, ventilation and humidity control of indoor growing, it is clear that the natural simplicity of outdoor cultivation is the path to truly sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
Hand-Trimmed
Hand-trimming is an artisanal skill that requires meticulous attention to detail coupled with a disciplined composure that allows the sculptor of flowers to focus for hours. Removing excess leaves by this method protects the integrity of the flowers and preserves the delicate trichomes. Enjoying our smokes places a tradition of artisanal handcraft at your fingertips.
Slow-cured
Curing is a labor-intensive process that slowly releases excess moisture and facilitates the breakdown of chlorophyll to create the smoothest, most mellow smoking experience possible. For a period of 60 days, we open hundreds of amber glass Ball Mason jars for a short period of time in order to properly “burp” the hemp flowers. This artisanal curing process in glass storage containers preserves the delicate flavors and aromas of our organic harvests while ensuring a smooth smoke.
Made-to-Order
On the day you place your order, we carefully select perfect flower buds from one of the amber mason jars and begin to hand-craft your order. This made-on-demand philosophy ensures the freshest smoking experience that is unsurpassed in an ever-competitive market.
Full Flower
Our Smokes contain only premium CBD hemp flower. We never use trim, shake or any other fillers in our pre-rolls; we simply process 100% flower with no artificial additives or ingredients.
Hand-ground
Delicate aromas and subtle flavor profiles are often destroyed by mechanized grinders that produce too much heat and mechanical jarring. We carefully grind your hemp flowers using a traditional hand-crank spice grinder. Most companies forgo this labor of love, but we believe that this added detail creates a superior smoke.
We listen
Before we even put a seed in the ground, we spent a year listening to folks from all walks of life talk about their experiences and aspirations with hemp smokes. The design of our pre-rolls and packaging was inspired by these stories, and these design elements are a direct reflection of the desires of the customers we serve.
The Dog Walker: Many users lamented the fact that most pre-rolled products offered in the market are too big for a single smoking experience. Smokes were often snuffed out midpoint, and this created a stale, distasteful smoke when relit. We responded with the perfect sized 70mm “dog walker” that prevents waste and resonates with the lifestyles of our customers.
French Rice Paper: Style and performativity was an important element for many of the smokers or would-be hemp smokers we talked with, so we responded with a natural French rice paper that elegantly showcases the quality of the organic flower.
Sustainable Packaging Design: Almost all of those we interviewed were strong proponents of sustainability, so we designed a reusable glass container that reduced waste while protecting the flavor and structure of the smokes from the rough environments of back pockets, backpacks and pocketbooks.
“Dutch Crown”: Finally, seasoned smokers lamented how the haphazard candy “twists” at the tip of most pre-rolls negatively affected the smoking experience, so we responded with a hand-rolled smoke that is meticulously finished with a delicately folded “Dutch Crown.” The crown facilitates a more pleasurable lighting experience and a cooler, more even burn.
